Emergency response providing life-saving food packs, essential non-food items, and disability equipment to 1,967 flood-affected elders to ensure safety and dignity.
During the devastating floods of 2024–2025, HelpAge Sri Lanka implemented a life-saving response funded by HelpAge International’s Global Emergency Fund. The project focused on ensuring the safety, comfort, and dignity of 1,967 older people across the Western, Southern, Northern, and Eastern provinces.
Specific activities (Project 01) ran from June to September 2024, reaching 1,167 families in districts such as Kalutara, Gampaha, Galle, and Matara. Distributions included dry food packs (rice, dhal) and essential non-food items (hygiene kits, buckets, soap, sarongs). Crucially, the response also provided disability equipment to vulnerable elders, ensuring they could navigate the crisis with independence.
